Manual Interface Virtual Terminal

Once you set up an online merchant account for your business or web site, you can easily begin to process and manage credit card transactions, without a credit card processing machine, by manually inputting transaction data using any computer that has an Internet connection and a Web browser. Each merchant account has access to Authorize.Net's Virtual Terminal, a secure, browser-based interface that enables businesses to process and manage credit card transactions from any computer that has an Internet connection and a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape). The Virtual Terminal replaces the standard keypad and card-swiping authorization terminals, and is a great solution for merchants who need to manually enter credit card transactions to process mail or phone order sales.

Businesses of all types and sizes choose Virtual Terminals because it reduces the complexity and expenses normally associated with processing credit card transactions. It can also sometimes be much faster than the standard dialup, phone-line based authorization system.

Businesses with an Authorize.Net account access the Virtual Terminal through the Authorize.Net web site, using their web browser. After logging into their account, merchants have access to a complete range of services, such as: authorizations for purchases, credits and returns activity, and much more. Merchants can also check the status of transactions and run a variety of reports right from the interface.

Authorizing credit card transactions using the Virtual Terminal is also very easy. Merchants simply fill in the electronic form that provides the Authorize.Net system with the credit card and transaction information it needs to complete the transaction. This information is then encrypted using the latest 40 or 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 3.0 technology, and is processed on a secure Authorize.Net host server. The server then sends the data through the card issuing bank's Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express network using their secure, proprietary connection. When the process is complete, the merchant receives an authorization number in about three seconds. Credit card transactions are automatically settled every day, and are usually funded within two to three business days.

Automated Web Site Credit Card Processing

Once you establish an online merchant account for your business, you can automate credit card transactions directly from your website by integrating it with the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway via one of our secure online connection methods.

Authorize.Net® offers two secure online credit card payment processing connection methods that allow secure Internet based businesses to authorize, process, and manage credit card transactions directly and automatically from your e-commerce web site.

The first method is their Advanced Integration Method (AIM), and is the preferred Authorize.Net integration solution. AIM uses secure sockets layer (SSL) digital certificate technology to connect securely and directly to the Payment Gateway, thus achieving the highest possible security for the Internet connection between a merchant and the gateway.

The second method is their Simple Integration Method (SIM), which optimizes the security, encryption, and authentication of transactions, for merchants that do not have an SSL digital certificate.

Both AIM and SIM provide the highest levels of secure transaction infrastructure available to merchants building an online e-commerce business, allowing them to directly connect their web site to the Authorize.Net Payment Gateway.

Secure Credit Card Transaction Forms

Secure Online Transaction FormsWhen using either the AIM or SIM method to connect to the Payment Gateway, a customer can quickly and easily enter their purchase information, such as: name, address, credit card number, etc., into a secure payment form on the merchant's e-commerce website. This payment form can either be hosted on the merchant's web site, or, for an easier option, the merchant may choose to use Authorize.Net's securely hosted payment form, which is completely customizable with their logo, and for their business.

After the customer submits their purchase information, the payment information is encrypted, using 128-bit SSL technology, and sent to the secure transaction server. The transaction processing server sends the data through the credit card network to the appropriate card issuer's bank, using a secure, proprietary online connection. The credit card processing authorization takes around 5 seconds, then the customer receives a transaction approval or decline response, and the Authorize.Net server stores the transaction information. Approved transactions are automatically settled each day, and are usually funded within three business days. See How Transactions Work

Merchants can login to the merchant interface at any time to check the status of current transactions submitted directly from their website, or run reports on past transactions. Online businesses can also use the Authorize.Net Virtual Terminal feature of their Merchant Interface account to enter payment information manually, if customers prefer to call in their credit card information.
